I've gone nuts on bass... I think I like this one. It's a Korean-made Spector Legend 4 Classic.
I hate the finish, I was actually trying to avoid finishes all together and go for something in a natural wood finish, but grabbed it because it was priced really well, and the clips I'd heard of it sounded great.
Sound-wise it's massive. It's got an incredibly scooped and percussive tone, great for pop/slap and for heavy music. Digging in with a pick sounds devastating. My fear is that it's very "pre-processed" right out of the jack. There's literally zero need for EQ'ing. That can be seen as an advantage and a disadvantage, just depends on your perspective I suppose.
For example, that very honky, middy, "parp/burp" sort of tone is literally impossible to coax out of it. It's just non-existent. Not that I ever really have cause to use that sort of tone personally, but I'd like the option! I'd rather an instrument put out too much of everything, so I have the control to dial out what's unnecessary, rather than trying to dial in something that wasn't there in the first place.
I'll spend a couple of weeks with it and see how I get on, but so far I must say the tones I was getting with it last night are the sort I've been trying to achieve for a long time.
I buy a Spector, then Alan buys Spector and wants a second one, granted he's had them before, now you buy a Spector.
