I can actually do my vocals for at the least of 3 hours since that was the longest I have ever practiced and it didn't even bother me in the least. Also I was sitting down driving through town during rush hour lol. I do need to focus on breathing technique for sure, just have not looked into it yet. My guitar instructor just got the Zen of Screaming dvd and he wants to let me watch it to help me. Also I have never felt I was out of breath during my vocals except the last bit in the Timeless Winter because I didn't take a breath for that last long howl, I forgot about it haha! Thanks for the constructive responses so far fellas keep them coming I want to become good! Also the music you guys are posting is very good and I will try to figure out how you perform them. I'm learning so much I literally started learning guitar the same time I started vocals. I am also interested on how to perform the vocals heard from Slaughter to Prevail that stuff is crazy. I can't seem to figure out how to make the sound he can yet. Also do you all use any form of touch ups or anything during your mixing and mastering? I will have 2 DAWs available to me when I get actually recording. Cakewalk Music Creator and Studio One.

I tried to find other ways to project my growl today but it still comes out relatively the same as heard in the clips on SoundCloud, is it really a problem? Even though it doesn't hurt and in fact feels good am I still damaging my vocal cords?

Over time improper singing technique has a cumulatively detrimental effect on the throat. Best to correct it now, and avoid all that, then try to correct it in a few years when permanent damage may have already been done. I'd have to actually see you sing to know for sure how to correct your technique. Are there any vocal teachers near you to give you some basic breathing and projecting lessons?
