Default Firewire Interfaces

I am looking to go a bit more mobile with my recording and I am looking at Firewire interfaces.

A few required tidbits:

It must be compatible with the new MacBook Pros and possibly Snow Leopard

It must work with Logic 9

Thats pretty much about it. I am looking for personal experiences as well, not regurgitation from manuals. I have read most of the manuals for the biggies, IU am looking for personal experiences if I can to get a real world feel of what I am in for.

How many inputs are you looking for & what's your price range?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Sometime within the next week I'll be picking up a new MBP with Logic 9. Although I've had borrowed a MBP with a FireFace800 on and off for the past couple of months. That was a very stable system, although pricey.

My plans are to try and keep a Tascam FW-1884 that I've been using for a few years now. According to the Online Manuals for Logic 9, that interface/surface controller is still being supported. But I guess we'll see if Snow Leopard throws a monkey wrench into those plans.

6 to 8 ports, cheap as possible. Hobby studio thing at home. I would like to keep it limited to $300 or so.

I was looking at the Presonus FireStudio Project, but reviews are hit or miss. Its hard to make heads or tails of the reviews.

I would be checking Presonus' forums about this instead. Here's a good starting point. Firestudio Project with Leopard & Logic

To be honest, I haven't had much luck with Presonus' stuff. Although this was with PC's instead of Macs.

The problem I am running into is the negative posts I find are fairly old. The thread you posted was from 2008. I cant really find anything solid recently either way. Thats why I am hoping someone chimes in.

I have a firestudio project and with the exception of midi it works perfectly and above it's price range all day. I have zero latency. But I use PC but that should make minimal difference.

I've been using a Firepod for some time now, and I love the thing. This is on a PC with Reaper, though, so your mileage may vary...

I've got a MOTU 8Pre and I'm very happy with it.

Not that I ever record anything with it.

Yeah, what's up with that??? Are you trying to give Drew some competition on who will never release an album first?
