Just bought the Mackie 802, plugged everything in- guitar sounds like crap. Its clear but kind of tinny and emphasizes the high end- harmonics totally ruined. It seems like im not getting enough volume out of it but Im trying to normalize it so it sounds the same volume through the headphones as the amp would alone. I tried it with two amps; one running a standard lineout with mono cable, the other TRS from the headphone jack with similar results. Both are 15 watt amps. The instrument button for the 802 is on, headphone vol halfway up, channel preamp up about halfway. I tried all different channels with the same result.
Everything in this rig is new except my Sennheiser 280 pro headphones, Ive had them for 5 years and really used the shit out of them - they sound like crap from the amp headphone outs(because of different ohmage?) but I dont notice any loss in sound quality on them when im listening to mp3's. Im going from the ASM Pro (active EMG) directly to the amp then amp out to the mixer.
I doubt there is something wrong with the mixer, I think Im doing something wrong or the headphones have gone bad. I read the manual and it appears Im connecting everything and normalizing it properly. I will be scouring Mackie and tech support forums tonight, any advice would be a HUGE help.
Is this the Spider you're trying to record? Cause Line 6 stuff is notorious for that nasty high end spikiness/tinny-ness.
