So, I picked up my MBox 2 Factory bundle today and I'm up and running in Pro Tools 8 with some handy new plug-ins to boot. My impressions so far:
Pro Tools 8 is way better than Pro Tools 6.9
My new iMac is way better than my old iBook G4
Mixing is so much easier and way more fun without having to flatten plugins I forgot what it's like to mix a whole song with 2-3+ plugins per track, plus reverbs, etc. without running out of processing power
Also, the Massey plugins are excellent (especially the Tape Head and L2007). I've just got the "free" versions (fully functional except you can't bypass them or save settings) but I can already tell I'm going to use them so frequently that I'll likely pay for them.
All I really need now is a better reverb plugin (D-Verb = poo), maybe a couple other things (compressors/eqs) and possibly some sort of drum samples (haven't had a chance to play with BFD Lite too much yet, but the little bit I did didn't impress me much compared to my experience with EZ Drummer, not sure I'll shell out for Superior 2.0).
The Slate stuff is good for drum samples, but its got its own sound, just like the DFH stuff does. I'm not a massive fan of the DFH sound, whereas the Slate ones just sit right with me.
