Ok somehow, i dont know 100% how but i got this band Neverland on Myspace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads coming in next week on the ssl while they are on a short break during their tour down here. I am usually stuck recording rap and reggae(which is fun imo), so i dont know a whole lot of practice techniques that would be best to record a tight progressive style band so i am asking you guys for some help.
things i want to know are like stereo micing techniques for the over heads, and mics to stay away from because they add too much color for this genre of music, etc.
For the kick i plan on beta 91 and an md421. Possibly an md421 on the low tom too. Using some of the tom mics from the audix drum mic kit, because you never know tbh if they will come in handy(if you want direct tom sound and control over them), sm57 on snare(maybe putting on on bottom too, to experiment).
As for guitars, i cant reamp. So sm57 on them for sure, also thinking about putting another mic to experiment.
Bass i havent decided yet, maybe the beta 52 or DI or a combination.
For vocals im thinking about the 4060, but tbh i dont know if i want a warm sound for this, or if they do either.
If you guys like i can post the mic list later
Thanks for the help!
MD421 + SM57 combo is sexual with guitars.
If you have a D6 use that for the kick. Bass could do with a blend of MD421 and D6 maybe, and then some DI too.
