So I decided I want to record with Reaper on my laptop (Toshiba A665-S6067, Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel 720QM 1.6GHz quad-core i7 processor) using Firewire instead of USB. Given my laptop didn't come with any Firewire ports, BUT it does have an Expresscard slot so I want to get an Expresscard firewire adapter. I've got it narrowed down to two that do have a TI chipset (which from my reading is CRUCIAL) and have them listed below, I just wanted to know from personal experience which of the two you guys would recommend?
Newegg.com - SYBA SD-EXPC34-2F 2-ports FireWire 1394a ExpressCard /34mm
Newegg.com - SIIG NN-EC2012-S1 IEEE 1394 ExpressCard 2 FireWire 400 (6-pin) ports
Secondly, I need to pick out an actual firewire recording interface. I've been reading up on this and I've narrowed it down to these two following interfaces listed below, again I would really appreciate any personal insight as far as which of the two you would recommend:
Buy Echo AudioFire4 FireWire Audio Interface | Audio Interfaces | Musician's Friend
Buy PreSonus FireStudio Mobile 10x6 FireWire Recording System | Audio Interfaces | Musician's Friend
I would go for the presonus. I can't help you with the ecpresscard, unfortunately. I would just check out the reviews. And remember that just because it costs more, doesn't necessarily mean that it's better.
