Here's how to offload your VSTi's to a second machine for processing in Reaper with ReaMote.
...With an asterisk.
First, fire up ReaMote on the slave. It'll list whatever you have installed. Obviously, you need to have the plugins you want to offload installed on both the master and slave machines, because ReaMote will kick over to the local plug-in if the connection drops.
Then in Reaper, Plugins -> ReaMote, and search for your slave. It should appear (make sure your firewall isn't blocking it), and you can list the available plugins on it.
You'll notice now that Performance Meter has an additional section at the bottom for your slave:
Then, show the FX chain on the track you want to add remote processing to.
When you add the effects, the top dropdown will have a new option for ReaMote hosts:
Voila! The VSTi will spawn locally and the ReaMote window will show the connected hosts, and how many FX chains it's running.
It should anyway.... Unless you're me.... Because everything I add just makes the remote host crash.
So if you are at the same step I am, proceed to the Reaper forums to figure it out. If you don't happen to have the last step in the procedure on your own setup, congrats, now you can run even more plugins on your mixes, and increase the potential that you will overmix your songs indefinitely.
Gotta be a damn computer tech to be a guitar player these days
