it sounds good instead of just thinking of it as the plug-and-play route to awesome. It's taken me 3 years of owning the XT Live to even begin to feel like I'm doing justice to its potential, and that's just on the modelling side of things. Actually getting everything to sit in the mix properly and sound as juicy as the demo in the OP is a totally different story, and I've still got a hell of a way to go on that front.
Having said that, I've been listening to a hell of a lot of HD500 clips recently, and am starting to wonder whether it's time that me and the beloved XT Live parted ways... Or maybe the HD500 could just be a cheeky bit on the side.
Regarding the snare, it sounds more like the compression settings which give it that glorious pop than the EQ - to my ears at least, I can't imagine the EQ being much more than a reasonably standard 250Hz-ish boost, mid-range cut and a slight boost somewhere around the 7k-10k region for snap. Then again, I don't know what the original snare sample he's using sounds like. Anyway, really nice mix regardless!
