I really suck at EQing bass, I am using Ampeg SVX and i've got a few bass impulses.... I really want to achieve something similar to this, but I don't know where to begin. Bass is an Ibanez SR505 with EMG's.

I have also replicated this with VST's but it doesn't sound anything like
Doug's tone on the Dogman album...

You'll need to blend a gritty tone with a clean or DI tone (or both). Focus on the 125hz and 2-4khz ranges, as that's where the warmth and attack, respectively, are. Filter below 100hz to leave room for kick, cut around 250-800hz to leave room for guitars. And maybe add a little in the 8-10khz range for rattle/sizzle.
Guitar tone is easier to get sounding right straight into the mic, amazing bass tone is in blending, and processing during the mix, mostly because it's harder to capture how a great bass tone sounds in the room with a mic or two.
