Just toying with some riffs from my death metal project. Thought I'd give the 7 a rest for a while and just really get stuck into the riffing and not rely on low tunings to bring groove and heaviness. I do have some 7 string songs for this project already but I'd kinda like it to be 6 string exclusive, or 6 string dominant at least, as it's forcing me to re-explore things in a sense.
I guess the main thing to note was the way I played it had to be drastically different and I really concentrated on power and accuracy. I only double-tracked this but quad-tracking it would certainly thicken it up, but I actually kinda dig the direct attack of just two guitars for this kind of riff.
From an engineering perspective, when playing at these speeds, higher tunings definitely do you some big big favours. The closer a guitar is tuned to standard pitch the clearer the notes are going to be IMO. The definition is certainly better, right across the board! But you do sacrifice that heaviness of course.
Yeah, that sounds pretty pro-style dude
