Thanks guys! Yes, some kind of hair metal-y stuff is definitely on the cards when I get the time!

I have to say, I'm so impressed with this Mayones bass. So much so that I think I may have to get one for myself!! It's a lovely looking and playing thing, and those Nordstrand pickups sound immense. Here's a little clip of how it sounds solo'd:

That's really not the kind of bass sound I personally like to be honest. Sounds like you have distortion on the bass, which is something I've never been much of a fan of. I personally like a more clunky and metallic sounding kind of bass.

Hahaha, yes the midrange is distorted to fuck, but the bottom is actually left pretty clean so you still get a strong fundamental. The distortion helps the bass cut through the mix while also tieing it in with the high-gain guitars to make a big wall of sound.
Clean and spiky/metallic is cool too though, but better suited to fingerstyle or slap playing where you want the bass to stand apart from the other instruments as a point of focus.

All IMO of course!

I'm a fan of that bass tone, it has it's place. But I'm also a fan of boosted, growly mids, boosted lows, cut highs, it just depends on the mood, and it all fits in somewhere.

True. But one of the reasons I've never liked distorted bass is because it blends into the guitar sound so much that it's hard to pick out the bass (even though you really are hearing the low end; it just simply is blending in with the guitar because of the distortion). Hence I tend to prefer spikey/metallic bass. I'll admit that kind of bass sounds best fingerstyle or slap played, but it also sounds good picked as well.

Obviously both of our opinions are 100% valid since there is no such thing as right and wrong in music.

That said, I thought the tone on all the guitars was totally kickass and the riffs themselves were supreme (said in a 1980s hair metal style).
