Hi guys, I would like to hear some new ideas on doubling guitars while doing riffs and chugging riffs in the 140 bpm to 220 bpm speed, which is where my heavier tunes end up.
I usually record one guitar with superior drummer2 or a click track, and then pan that guitar 100% left and then record the double at 100% right. I am not really good at it yet, though i have been trying for quite some time!!
A new technique i have tried is to record the first guitar and then pan it right to about 30% and then record the double around 70% left. It seems that this way tightens up the two guitars. I usually record with headphones on.
What do you guys do? I have tried recording one and then muting it and recording the second guitar, but it usually doesn't come out good when i play the two tracks back together...which could be a sign of my need to practice harder....LOL
It's likely not sounding good because your takes aren't tight enough. For multitracking guitars your takes need to be as similar as possible.
Break out that metronome good sir, and/or practice the riffs until you hate them.
