Hey guys! I found a Superior Drummer preset up on youtube that sounded quite like the drum sound on Born of Osiris' "The Discovery"-album, and I thought I'd have a go at trying to recreate (pun intended) the whole mix on the album, so I covered the first song off there - "Follow The Signs"!
Have a listen and tell me what you think
The original song if you haven't heard it:

As for gear and stuff:
EBMM JP7/Ibanez Iceman bass - Axe-FX Standard - Apogee One - 27" iMac with Logic Pro 9 & S2.0 MF
I used Logic's stock plugins exclusively, apart from the Stillwell Audio Bombardier Buss Compressor in the mastering chain. Kinda didn't get the same "fat" synth sound Born of Osiris has, but meh, close enough
I feel as my mix kind of lacks the same "punch" that the original recording has - that probably has to do with many things, like for one that the original was recorded in a professional studio with awesome outboard gear and was mixed and mastered by professionals but I am quite happy with how close I got to the sound of the original using -relatively- cheap gear.
I have adjusted the mix a little bit after i posted this a couple of weeks ago - mainly cutting out even more of the mids (around 500 Hz), and lowering the volume on the drums by like 1dB. The kick is probably a tiny winy little bit too "clicky" compared to the original, and the highs on the snare and toms is a little "all over the place" in this one, Im trying to adjust that as best as I can. I'll post an updated version later on when a buddy of mine is done laying down the vocals
Hope you enjoy it, I would appreciate some feedback!
AND YEAH! The solo at the end is a synth. That's why it sounds like utter shite. I suck at life Still working on learning it properly. That's how it goes when you spend your time mixing instead of working on those chops man..
dude this sounds great, care to share the drum preset?
