So after months of reading up on here on how to get a basic recording i've finally recorded my first song. Its not my song - its my friends band, and after they got ripped off in the past with recordings which came out really bad I offered to record a new song they wrote as practice for me and as a rubbish gift for them. It was all done on a podHD straight into reaper for the guitar and bass tones, and the drumming was all EZ drummer. the drummer sat for 4 hours and entered every beat by hand as he didnt want to use the stock preset beats.
As I'm a n00b i double tracked everything (there are 2 guitarists, so Rhythm 1 is panned 100L and 80L while Rhythm 2 is 100R and 80R) I wasn't sure if this was too much or not, but thought i can just delete the extra tracks in reaper later. all the tracks are just scratch takes, and some are literally cut and pasted (you can tell). I put a low and high pass filter on, and as i know nothing about EQ i attempt to cut a bit of fizz with a notch around 3.5-4khz, but it probably didn't help much.
Anyway, I'm quite proud of my first attempt and would love it if any of you fine chaps could take a listen and tell me what you think
I know i have a long way to go, but its a start. and if you listen really carefully I'm guesting on the second half of the solo
Sounds like you are off to a good start man.
