The vibe I am trying to capture here is like, necro glam, it's like the most overly kvlt black metal fused with the personal empowerment of glam metal. As far as I am concerned, *everyone* loves gang vocals. That shit makes you want to stay out past curfew, way past curfew.
The problem is, I don't know how to get that "You wouldn't understand Mom" vibe to translate with ultra kvlt vocals. I want like, a black metal version of Dokken's "Night by Night". Ideally I would get other people to gang vocal it up with me, but everyone I've tried finds themselves unable to cope with the intense level of personal empowerment in my lyrics. Besides that, they all think necro glam is a bad idea. Any tips on how to do gang vocals? Panning? 30-40% on the panned tracks is probably not enough spread, right? Everytime I end up doing it it just sounds like I double/triple tracked to reinforce the vocal tracks and just wasn't tight enough.
Sound clip to illustrate my plight. Drums removed, etc. Might have thrown reverb on the master bus because I thought it made everything sound mysterious, like it was recorded in a garage by high schoolers in the 80s. Which is kind of what I want, but will need to keep experimenting on that front to make it sound less synthetic.
you need to set up a mic, then take 3 or 4 steps away from it, do maybe 10 takes. then bus these all to a single track. each take must be slightly different timbre wise. then do this same thing again 2 more times, one panned hard left, hard right and one right up the middle. some verb and you're ready to go.
try it. you'll piss your ass.
