I've got a shot at writing some music for a game. I've come up with this so far. It's very rough and needs some development, some extra noises and such, and it'll need to go somewhere, rather than just end as this clip does, but it's taking a bit of shape. If chosen, it'll be used as the trailer/intro music. I could use a second opinion on how it's shaping up.
This probably sounds really naff and lame, so please don't hold back on saying so. I'm big and ugly enough to take it.
All I really know is that it's an action game, so I'm hoping this'll fit the vibe. If they don't use it, fuck them, I'll stick some heavy guitars on it and make a shit song with it.
Did a bit more:
I dig the vaguely John Carpeter vibe, but it felt a little generic, it needs more zazz. I felt the structure didn't really build to anything, you were building a lot of suspense marvelously and it never delivered hard enough. Depends on the type of game, footage in the trailer obviously, so it's unfit to judge without seeing that, if it's a short teaser kind of thing maybe that's exactly the vibe it needs.
I think if heavy, chugging guitars came in at 35 seconds that would kill.
If a vintage vibe is appropriate you need to make it sound even more like John Carpenter, less modern, more retro. Right now you are hitting like, a not quite modern vibe, sounds more like a 2003 game. You will obviously polish it up, but unless you nail the modern vibe with obscene polish/production I would say go a little retro if the game calls for it.
