Anybody have/used both of them and can give me a few of the pros/cons? I have SD2 but have been wanting to pick up SSD for a change of pace, and I'd like to know if it's worth it. The few videos I've seen look promising, but using something in the real world is obviously going to be a bit different.
Thanks in advance, bros.
I have 'em both. Neither are a magic bullet as far as mixes are concerned (as you'll know with S2). Both take work, but S2 definitely has the edge if you have some of its expansions.
SSD does sound pretty good, but the toms and cymbals do sound a bit lacklustre. I used to use the snares and kicks from it in conjunction with S2 and liked the results, but I now just prefer to use Metal! and Metal Machine EZXs (mostly out of laziness, since I haven't installed SSD on my new computer, but also because using them didn't transform the mixes that much).
Like all this stuff, it's really how you use it. It's nice to have extra options, and SSD really doesn't cost very much, so I reckon its worth springing for.
Oh yeah, the interface for SSD is pretty crappy, if that matters to you. For me, it's a bit of a 'fire and forget'. I had templates set up in Cubase so I never had to even look at it. But, if that will matter, be aware it looks and essentially operates in a very basic way compared to S2.
