Here's a can of worms we haven't opened in a while.
What's the current thinking on best practices for recording sample rate? I just realized I have had inadvertently my projects set to 98kHz and I probably don't need it.
Last time I checked, most people were thinking that 48kHz was the best choice - increases were pretty much inaudible, and created unnecessary CPU load and large file sizes. Is that still good advice?
Keep in mind that this is home studio use - I'm not exactly using multi-thousand dollar mics in a carefully designed room.
48 works fine provided it's at 24 bits. Plenty enough depth to track with and unless you're running a full treated room with incredible monitors, you won't notice any difference. Hell, almost no one listens to music with good enough gear to really make the difference between 48khz and 96khz justifiable for home studio working.
