I bought a new set of illuminators and tossed them in my Jackson SLAT7 (indo not Japan). I previously had a JB/Jazz set but based on the Petrucci Mark V:25 vid, I decided I wanted to give these a shot.
I fired up reaper and grabbed a midi drum track to my favorite 7 string song "A Change of Seasons" and recorded the first distorted riff. I recorded with the JB first then swapped pickups and rerecorded it with the new Illuminators. Upon replay it is very apparent that these new pickups have a noticeable "clank" to them.
Here are some clips. The guitar is mahogany body with a maple neck thru and a rosewood fretboard. Strings are 10-62 in B standard.
First the JB:
Now the Illuminators:
Can any one else here it?
The tracks are quad tracked as follows:
1 Mesa Recto Left
1 Mesa Recto 75% Right
1 Mesa Mark 4 Right
1 Mesa Mark 4 75% Left
Bass is and SVT of some kind. Also sorry the mixes are a little lacking im only part way thru the Systematic Mixing Guide
I like the Illuminators better based on those clips, but I always think JBs sound shitty, anyway.
