I've been doing a bunch of recording during the month of February (for FAWM) and I've been struggling to get a good lead sound. Interestingly, I have no trouble getting a rhythm sound I like with an SM57 and a few minutes of playing with mic placement.
Amp is a Mark V:25 into a Thiele 1x12 loaded with a EVM-12L. I have a lead sound I like in the room, but I can't get it to tape - I always end up with a honky midrange.
Check out the demo I posted here for an example: http://www.metalguitarist.org/forum/...tml#post935920
Mics at my disposal are: SM57, SM58, AT Pro 37, AT 2020, and an omni SDC from 12 Gauge Microphones.
I haven't had time to try the AT 2020, but the Pro 37 doesn't seem to be much better than the '57, and I can't imagine the omni mic would be a good choice. What am I missing?
I typically don't move the mics for lead vs. rhythm. I think it's the amp settings...
