I couldn't figure out a good way of wording what I'm looking for in the description.
As a background, I'm currently living in a fairly cramped apartment. It doesn't leave much room for gear, outside of one guitar and a practice amp.
For work, I do multimedia production (some graphic work, some video editing and pretty minor audio manipulation). Because I've got my own decent sized office and my job involves playing video and audio, it's seemed like a reasonable idea to just keep my recording gear here; opening up the possibility of writing/recording on my downtime and maybe eventually integrating that into my video production.
So anyway, to date I've got a few guitars here and an audio interface but I've done very little recording/jamming because I find tracking with heaphones to be a PITA and I don't have any monitor speakers (yet). That's where you guys come in...
Here's kinda desk I've got:
And what I'm working with (ignore the UX1... I've got it for jamming but I've got a Saffire Pro 14 that goes in it's place when I get things running):
I've got a PC tower off on the floor off to the side, my PC monitor sits on the right wing and I've got an iMac on the center section angled toward me. The iMac is what I do the bulk of my video/audio editing on, so that's where my focus would be.
The main thing I'm looking for would be a decent option for elevating a pair or monitor speakers in the area around the iMac (other than the fact they project better that way, there's not enough desk space between the iMac and my PC monitor without moving the iMac, which would make switching between the two a pain in the ass.)
So, a pair of speaker stands that don't have a huge footprint and stand up off the desk (~8" - 12" would probably work fine) would be great.
Aside from that, I wouldn't mind something for MIDI tracking. The smaller the better. Somewhere infront of the iMac would be nice but I know the keyboard takes up a most of that real estate. If there's a practical way to fit both, that would be nice... putting it off on the left wing is an option I'm not opposed to, but since this desk/office is multi-use, I typically need that space for notes and paperwork to go with whatever I'm working on.
As if THAT wasn't enough, recommendations on an office friendly pair of monitor speakers, heaphones and anything else that would make my office more recording friendly (while not hindering it's required use) would be appreciated.
You can find some some good monitor stands on amazon or even make your own. I have a pair of M-audio BX8s I got on sale that I love, but im not too sure on what are the best budget monitors.
