So I've been producing my own projects at home for a few years now. All the guitar, bass, drum programming, then outsourcing the vocals and live drums for the finished product. But now I'm diving into producing an album for my 'band' out of our rehearsal studio. (It's just me and a drummer, but he's doing the vocals and I'm doing all the guitar work)
I need to get a few more Mics to capture the drums. I have a few 57s, a kick mic, and a couple voc Mics. Probably gonna grab a couple 421s for the toms.
But I need some suggestions on some (relatively) inexpensive overheads. Also my interface is only 6in/10out. So I'm looking at the Saffire pro 40 to upgrade and get the job done.
Right now I'm just recording scratch tracks live and tempo mapping based on that. But if any of you guys have suggestions on previously mention gear or advice on going about this project it would be greatly appreciated!
I know it's a pretty vague subject but I'm all ears
For the overheads get the best pair of small diaphragm condensers you can afford. 421s are great on toms, and are nice on guitar cabs too.
What's your budget for mics?
