So after years and years of dealing with the hassle of recording interfaces (I don't have a space I will be staying in long enough to justify a rack mount interface and a desk, and I was tired of shit shifting everytime I wanted to plug/unplug something in/looking messy in general) and the USB one I had having weird conflicts with Windows sound or other USB devices or variable latency that was sometimes excellent or sometimes poor I completely lost my shit and decided I was going to consolidate the shit out of things. So I went and bought a Firebox (outdated, but it's a classic) and an internal firewire card and in 5 minutes of rage influenced inspiration took off the side wings and shoved it in the case. Where it is held in by hatred and extreme friction. It's not as nice an interface as my Focusrite, but Firewire is unfortunately better than USB and I didn't want to spend $500 and the Firebox is kind of a time tested classic anyways.
My questions are:
-Does anyone know where I could get rack mount sides for this? It's pretty standard dimensions, those should be an easily attainable part. Have no clue how to find them though. The kind of shit for mounting in a computer tower.
-The Firebox generated a lot of heat. The side wings are actually like, faux heatsinks. Not actual heat sinks, but they look like heat sinks and get hot. Should I be worried about cramming it in an enclosed space. Like "burning the house down" worried. I bought that thing for like $40. Don't care if it runs the risk of frying that much.
You can probably jury-rig some brackets yourself without too much trouble, and if you don't need the top DVD drive you could always throw a heatsink and fan on top of the firebox to help dissipate heat. I remember the few times I used my firebox it always got pretty hot.
