What do you listen to music on?

    For mix translation purposes.

Just updating my vague impressions of 'what people listen on these days'.

I put this in the recording forum because it's about recording and I assume most people just use the 'new post' function so it doesn't matter. I dunno if that biases the answers though, because I don't care if you actually record or not for your answer. It's just general listening. So if a passing mod wants to put it anywhere it'll get better answers, please do. Ta.

I listen mostly in my car or on some logitech 2.1 computer speakers.

More rarely thru IEM style headphones and on my recording monitors at home.

Damn. PC speakers and laptop: important options I missed off.

    Thanks for your answer.

I put car and ear buds but then I realized that I'm sitting at my desk at work listening to music on the shitty little soundbar mounted underneath the monitor so, uh...that too.

When you ask this question to metalheads you also have to realize that there is a lot of hearing loss going on that effects translation.

Hopefully everybody here wised up and started protecting their hearing at some point, but shit, I know mine isn't what it was at 16. Regardless of system, I'm going to be losing some nuance right there. People never consider that when ancient bands approve mastered records that are fucking horrible production wise, it's like, "of course it sounds awful to us, those guys are near deaf at this point, their judgement isn't there".

A lot of us aren't even biologically capable of hearing some of the quality of really high end systems, probably more than anybody thinks.
