Default Waxman defeats Dingell for Energy & Commerce Chair

Waxman Defeats Dingell - Capitol Briefing

It is good to see a Blue Dog Democrat get his chairmanship yanked away from him. Dingell has been a big part of why we don't have more fuel efficient cars on the roads today, and now his rein is over.

Quote:
Senior Democrats were stunned by the Waxman victory, which seemingly dealt a blow to the party's long-held principle of seniority.

"It's just been buried," Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, said of seniority
Seniority is the biggest reason Congress is fucking broken. How about the right person for the job, instead of these seventy and eighty something dinosaurs protecting the status quo? This problem exists on both sides of the aisle.

We need the conservative democrats to prevent the things from swinging too far to the left. Otherwise, there will be a huge backlash in the next election and the Rebuplicans will see significant gains.

Someone in the pocket of the auto industry should not be the chairman of this committee.

I could agree with you if the GOP didn't make it a habit of sticking together, no matter what. We also need the more liberal Republicans to not be silenced, but until then, the blue dogs need to be pushed out of positions of power and influence.
