Thinking of giving Ibanez another shot (RGA42)

I've owned two Ibbys in the past and I didn't really connect with either of them. But I'm willing to give Ibanez another try, mostly because I like the RG body shape. I'm not the biggest fan of bolt-on construction or reed thin necks with really flat fretboards, but I'm willing to keep an open mind.

I was considering visiting some local shops and trying out some RGAs. In particular I'm interested in the new RGA42 (the one with the EMGs, not the older model with the LoZ3s), and I'm leaning towards the fixed-bridge version. Any thoughts or advice to pass along?

try it before you buy it or have a return policy. Ibanez makes some great low end guitars but they let some duds go thru as well.

    I have the older RGA42FM.

It's a very nice guitar. it plays great doesnt ever go out of tune or have any intonation issues. And the gibralter bridge is amazing.

The stock pickups did really really suck but they got switched out for a BKP micracle man & mississippi Queen combo and it rocks (the MQ has since been changed out for a entwistle HDN though)

give it a shot but if you don't like it don't give up on ibanez yet, the RGA121 is a solid guitar from the prestige line and you can score those used for around 600 dollars. If it still doesn't work out for ya then I recommend ESP or Jackson next for you.

I've played an RG471AH at Guitar Center for at least an hour and I really like the Gibraltar bridge.

I feel like the RGA is the series I'd get along with best. I want to get my hands on a 121 to give a spin.

Why would you buy a shitty ibanez when you're trying to give them a shot at redeeming themselves to you?

    Get an RG550, 560, 750 or 770.

or the 565, the prestige line has some nice guitars as well that you can find way cheaper used.
