I can't believe no one has started a thread about this yet.
So how bad is Lesnar going to beat Mir's ass?
I'm basically rooting for Lesnar because I want to watch all the MMA "purists" lose their shit over an ex-pro wrestler being the heavyweight champ.
Actually, I would like to see Mir win and I think he is still capable of doing it. I have a feeling we will see a much better Brock this time around - he will be very tough to beat.
I do find it humorous that Brock acts like he just made a little mistake and got caught in their first fight - maybe true. But Mir for a heavyweight is an extremely good BJJ guy he can "catch" Brock again if he's not careful.
I would not be crushed because Brock is an ex-WWE guy. When Pride was still going a lot of the Japanese fighters were ex-Pro wrestling guys and some of those guys were tough as nails. Thinking about where MMA is today it's very possible that if Brock were just coming out of collegiate wrestling that he would look at MMA over Pro-wrestling. Many of champions we have had were ex-collegiate wrestlers (ex. Couture, Hughes, Henderson, Lindland, Sherk etc.). Brock is as strong as an ox and as he gains tools for MMA he will be very tough to beat.
I think what pissed a lot of people off about Brock was how quickly he got a title shot - not the fact that he did get one. Maybe he didn't pay his dues? Hey, that's business right - he draws more fans into the sport and that shouldn't be bad.
I've been watching MMA a long time - all I can say is how nice it is that almost any night of the week I can flip on the TV and watch some pro-MMA/Combat Sports. So much better than those days when it was like some underground cock-fight.
I'm really looking forward to the GSP/Alves fight and want to see Hendo smash Bisbing.
