It stands for...
New Jersey Name & Number Day!!
I got into hockey in '92, which is the year the Penguins won their 2nd of back-to-back Cups. The next year, this jersey was introduced as their away jersey, and I bought one. Until now, it has remained name & numberless. I have 4 Pens jerseys, 1 3rd Jersey with Jagr on it, a home jersey from the mid '90s with "PAXTON" and "70" on it, a 3rd Jersey goalie cut w/o anything, and this one, which was my first. I've always been a fan of goalies, and loved Barrasso back in the day. I wore this jersey several times when going out to the bar to watch the Playoffs, because I wanted the Wings fans here in Detroit to know I wasn't a fly-by-night Pens fan or anything like that. And I still got dumbasses asking me if it said "Crosby" on the back, to which I replied "Crosby was in Elementary school when this jersey was in play."
So anyways, the Pens won the cup. And I decided it was time this jersey got a name & number on it. I coulda gone with Lemieux or Jagr... but I decided to go with what I felt would bring me more 'cred' and go with the lesser known star. And I love it!! It came out great, and I can't wait to wear it to the bar this winter.
Goalies FTW!! (I'll be getting an Away "Fleury" jersey from Mellon Arena next year when my drummer goes there next for business)
This makes up for your shoe thread. Solid purchase, sir!
