Woods to be fined for criticism of rules official - Golf - Yahoo! Sports
...but I feel a little ambivalent about this.
Let me get this straight - Tiger Woods is getting fiined because he publically said that the referees' decision to put he and the guy he was fighting for the lead ruined what should have been a great final round when his opponent had to rush a couple very difficult shots and botched them?
To me, it's hard to read that and not feel like he's being fined for being a gentleman and showing good sportsmanship. Rules are rules, but when they're the last pair on the course and they're in a close duel for the lead, if you're the guy who makes that call, turning around and slapping a fine on Tiger for saying something about it just seems a little knee-jerk.
I don't know. I love what Tiger has done for the game, but I think he should just shut up about this issue. He won the tournament.
I don't think this is any worse than an umpire throwing out the Phillies centerfielder for throwing up his arms from centerfield after the ump called ball on the hitter at the plate.
