EDIT:
Isn't living through the 2004 playoffs punishment enough?

:squint:

I should start counting from this point on how many times I hear about their payroll.

The people who constantly bring up the Yankee's payroll are just jealous that their team can't afford to pay like New York. Any fan would love for their team to be able to spend like the Yankees do. However, the Yankees have had the highest payroll in the majors for years, and this is their first World Series in quite some time, so it's no guarantee.

I would like to add, fuck the Yankees and their payroll. If they're going to spend that much money they should win every year.

Damn you Yankee haters.

Crooks wins.

They were talking about total contracts (not just annual salaries) towards the end of the game last night, and between A-Rod, Jeter, and Teixeira (sp?) I think it came in at over a billion dollars. That's fucking mind blowing.

Anyway, Pete, as much as it pains me to admit this, congrats. You guys simply outplayed the Phillies last night - they just looked sloppy.

Thanks, Drew. :yesway:

Let me just add that the Red Sox could have landed Mark Teixeira with just a bit more to their original offer to him and we might be having this exact same conversation about the Red Sox and their payroll.

I think it's ridiculous to lump Boston into this group of teams that can't compete because they're a "small market" team or they just can't spend the money like the Yankees can. They have the means and have signed players that have absurd contracts as well. I do feel bad for teams like Pittsburgh, Kansas City, etc. who really can't retain their young talent and end up losing them to the large market teams or can't go after the big free agents, but where was all this talk when the Yankees signed Kevin Brown or Carl Pavano and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs three years in a row? The Yankees do spend a lot of money, but they also started to develop some their younger talent as well, which were the key to the 90's championships and hopefully what will continue into the future with the current team.

Okay… I'm done trying to justify this. I'm going to enjoy this and just let the negative stuff roll off me or at least try.

Okay, one more thing. In this case the numbers don't tell the story and I think you can argue with it. The Mets and Cubs, numbers 2 & 3 on the list of highest payrolls in MLB didn't even make the playoffs, so you can't tell me that the amount of money a team spends can quantify their success on the field. It just doesn't work and it just isn't for this season. The Mets always have a high payroll and they haven't won since 1986 and we all know that the Cubs haven't won since the ice age, so it's just not as simple as spending the most money. The Marlins in 2003 won with a very young and low payroll team.

Am I banned yet?

I was just listening to the radio and a caller brought up a good point. Kinda what I have been wanting to say but haven't put it into words.

If the Yankees dont win every year with the payroll they have "Oh look at those idiots spent all that money and didnt win" OR if they do win its "of course they won look at their payroll"

IF any other team wins its a case of "Look at our front office they did so well with our limited resources" If they lose "Of course we lost the Yankees spend all that money"

Its a catch 22.

Guys, we're all bickering about their payroll and missing the important stuff. Finally, those 9 year olds that weren't born the last time the Yankees won can die in peace.

EDIT: And on an actual important note, Mike "Benedict Judas" Mussina got Tiki Barber'd. Fuck that guy.
