I haven't played in a long time but apparently this place is epic to play at. It was built and is run by two former Marines who know their shit, so I'm hoping for fairly intense play. I like their idea of a hybrid field. I prefer to play woodsball, because speedball just looks dumb as hell (and a waste of paint), but having a woodsball field that encourages fast gameplay? That seems cool.
There is an awesome one in Limon that has like 5 courses: A speed course, a course with a river splitting the two sides, a fort course, a tall grass/camo course, and some other stuff.
I used to go there all the time, but then in college I had to sell my gun to buy books for the semester. Lame.
Perhaps. I think I might be a little too poor to play paintball again. It gets expensive with buying ammo and such. Used to have a Tippman 98 custom with flatline barrel. Sniper rifle FTW.
We still need to get together for beers and axe battles!
When it was working it was badass. I had about an extra 20-30 years of range than everybody else. However, if you shoot someone at max range, the balls didn't always pop.
Also, if a ball pops in the barrel, you are fucked. The thing has to be PRISTINE to operate well. Also, it slows down your firing rate a bit, as balls tend to break more when you are trigger happy.
Not for use in a speed course, awesome for big open fields.
Hmm. I'll have to gauge how the games go on this field to make a barrel selection. Right now I have a 16" Smart Parts barrel and the 8" stock barrel. You never know, I might end up preferring the stock one.
Have you checked out RAP4? They have a lot of cool shit especially if you like the whole milsim thing. They sell cameras that can be mounted to weaver rails so that you can record the game. Pretty badass!
Nah. I need to limit my hobbies. Between working, my PhD, guitar, teaching lessons, weightlifting, and playing sports, I've got too much going on as it is
IMO the Flatline is a waste. If your not holding the gun straight the balls can curve. They are also rough on the balls cause they cause a backspin on the ball.
If anything grab a nice JJ ceramic barrell. (I have 2,one for each of my 98's)
Those things are a great idea, until you break a ball in them. I've seen more guys have more problems with those hoppers than any other kind, honestly.
The 98 is a solid gun, and honestly one of the best field/woods balls guns you can use. Namely, because it never fucking breaks. I had an Autococker for a season that I had almost $700 in. The thing broke, broke, broke all the fucking time. Everyone I know that's owned one says the same thing. The gun is a beast when it works, but you spend more time fixing it than you do shooting people.
Another one from a different day. I forget the make of the body armor, but the first time someone comes around and shoots you point blank with a field gun on a cold day, you will be GLAD AS FUCK that you have it on.
I've never played using armor really, I usually wear camo pants and sometimes a camo jacket. I have considered getting a vest of some sort if I begin to play regularly.
Yeah, from what I have seen with guns like Spyders and Autocockers and the like I've gathered that they suck, and Tippmann's guns are all I'm really interested in. I've actually never heard of problems with the Cylone system. The field that I am going to play on uses A5s as their field rental, so I could ask them how they've fared since they all have the cyclone.
I actually sold my AC and bought a Spyder, because a bunch of my buddies made the switch and had great luck with them. This was like ~6 years ago, and at least back then the Spyder was kind of the poor man's autococker. I ended up being able to get the gun, an awesome barrel, drop forward, hopper, a remote kit, expansion chamber and a handful of other goodies for the Spyder and still pocketed like $150 from my bone-stock AC. I've never once (knock on wood) had it break on me in the middle of a game, and mostly all I do is clean it after a day out and put fresh o-rings/teflon tape on it before each outing.
I've always had great luck with it, but I take good care of it. Most field places will go with Tippmann stuff because there are very few moving parts and they are built like tanks. They don't fire quite as consistently as more elaborate guns, but people who rent PB guns beat the hell out of them anyway.
I have an eTrigger right now, and honestly I think they're a waste of money. I can dial the thing up to some absurd amount of shots per second that not even James Bond's paintball gun could possibly fire without slamming the barrel full of broken balls.
The only nice part of it is that it's awesome for clearing your barrel - flip the thing over, put it on like 23847932% full auto and it cleans the fuck out of it if you get a broken ball mid-battle.
Edit: Cool, you can actually see my paintball flyin' on the right/middle of the pic.
That's a Spyder with a bunch of mods on it. I forget the exact model - it was like $350 years ago, and was fucking chrome when I got it.
I mostly played woods ball, so I ended up painting it with a few different greens. Nothing says "SHOOT ME" like creeping through the woods with a bling'd out shiny freakin' gun.
The new Wal-Mart Spyders aren't the same (iirc) as the first gen ones that came out that I have. They went from being awesome modder guns to cheap department store crap. The only thing that's really original on mine is the body anyway.
And yeah, that's why most people just buy '98s. They are definitely awesome guns. If you don't already have it, get the anti-chop bolt for it. Everyone seems to rave about them. :yesway:
