Was originally looking at the S&M Holmes 22" but just the frame, fork and wheel kit is $700. And I'd still have to buy a pile of parts for it.
Then I saw this while browsing the latest Dan's Comp catalog when I was taking my morning dump:
Saint XLT 24" | Stolen Bike Co. | BMX
I've always shyed away from modern 24" BMX bikes because the frames were either hi-tensile steel or tri-moly. The Stolen Saint XLT 24 is all chromoly, baby. And it's under $500 for a complete and fairly light weight. 26lbs. I figure replacing things like the cranks and things like that might shave off a few pounds. But that wont really be a pressing issue.
Anyway... Larger wheel base than a 20" and since most of the riding I do anymore is just thrashing around on the streets it should be just fine for that. Plus, the girlfriend has been pushing me to buy another mountain bike for some casual trail riding but I think this will do just fine. Plus, it'd be a killer dirt jumper. We also found some more killer riding spots this past weekend and I've been really jonesing for something a bit more comfortable for my height and love of street riding lately.
It's currently out of stock but they said they should have more around July 1st. One of them has my name on it and I should be receiving it shortly after.
Going for the black and chrome one:
And a vid from the Stolen site of some dudes riding last years model. Nothing awesome but basically what I mostly do now:
