sucks. Everything takes forever to load it's on a million screens, bing (whatever that is) is now built in, and you have to be a gold member to do anything.

Sorry guys, I love the controller on the xbox, but the service and dashboard are terrible. I recently let my gold account expire and I couldn't honestly care less.

This is actually something that has really annoyed me about Xbox 360. I bought my PS3 before I bought my Xbox 360 and the PS3 has used the same system since the day I bought it. It updates and improves, but it's the same. Since I bought my first Xbox 360, the "frontend"/system has DRASTICALLY changed at least 4 times now. I don't know why the hell they did it. I remember the huge change where they added their rip-off of Nintendo's Mii. I was like "Do they think this will help them get some of Nintendo's customers?" This newest change is mainly a mystery to me...

I love my Xbox, but there are certain things about it that I seriously don't like... such as this.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, and you get used to it.

The Bing search is actually pretty useful if you have a keyboard or chatpad handy. With it, you can search for something like DLC in the marketplace, without actually having to browse the marketplace.

I've never really been a fan of the Metro layout on the Windows Phones, Windows 8, and now xBox, but it's certainly not a dealbreaker.

The Social (Friends) tab could be a lot better as well. Only ~3-4 friend avatars show up on the main page now, and to view anyone else online, you have to click on the friends square. :noway:

One thing I like is it notifies you when a friend starts playing the same game as you, where as before it'd only notify you that you have friends playing when you start playing the same game.

The good thing, though, is that when you are playing a game and press the Xbox button, that menu is 95% the same as it used to be (mainly they just added a few extra things to the menu, but left everything else the same). Just gives me even less of a reason to be on the Xbox dashboard.

The things that get me: I pay $60 a year for xbox live and all of the games are hosted on the connections of peers and they plaster ads all over everything in the dashboard with the new update even more than before. That is what this update is really all about. Live is a money removal service.

Oh and while I'm bitching about it: don't give them your credit card number. Just buy the code at the store. I would feel more confident in the outcome of canceling a subscription to a porn site than xbox live.

All of that said.... it's still the best way to play games online.

No, it took me less than 5 minutes over the phone to cancel my brothers account.

They're actually really easy to deal with too in terms of customer service, one of my controllers kept dying so the lady sent me a free play and charge kit plus 3 of those extra battery packs :D

Howso Chris? I get netflix connection free, playing online with friends free, and its a slick dashboard that will read my android phone and take video and music off of it. My Xbox won't read my phone at all. Its also a top end blu ray player and all games come on one disc.

Tell me, other than the security problem that did not affect you or me in the least and is over with, how is the Xbox product at all better than the ps3? Its inferior at this point.

I'm talking about the interface, dude.

Meh. I think console fanboy wars are kind of pointless at this point. We're going to see very, very few exclusives on either console these days; no one wants to limit their market unless they're owned by Sony or Microsoft.

^ :agreed:

It's not like they're thousands of dollars. They're consoles that run a few hundred bucks. I have both, both have perks. I still prefer XBL to PSN. The PS3 itself is a much better piece of hardware, but really - who cares? Once you're in the game it doesn't matter anyway.

I think both of them are getting a little long in the tooth, and look forward to the next gen of each. :yesway:

:agreed: I have both and I own a ton of games for both. I own more Xbox 360 games than PS3 games and I play my Xbox 360 more than I play my PS3... but I use them both about equally because I watch a lot of Blu Ray movies on my PS3 (just gorgeous).

If my PS3 broke, I would buy a new PS3. If my 360 broke, I... well, I'm on my second 360 now, but I think the warranty should still be good for a while.

I will say though, I like this longer console lifecycle. It means that I don't have to upgrade as often, and developers get REALLY good at eking every little bit of performance and optimization out of a particular platform. I mean, yeah, the new PC games look better; but honestly, most new games look pretty fantastic anyways and just may have a low-res texture here and there.

Except for COD MW3. Which locks the POV to a very narrow angle to minimize the amount of rendering it has to do. Makes you feel like you're running around with blinders on

I have GOW2, it's cool. I played through a bunch of the first GOW, maybe it's just me but GOW seemed like a step backwards after playing Dark Sector and Mass Effect. I think those games got the idea down better, but I'm probably in the minority on that opinion.

About the PSN network thing, I'm not brushing it under the rug, but in the end it did nothing to me. The card I have registered on the PSN network is a card with a $200 limit I refuse to up and it's specifically for stuff like that. I think I've maybe bought 1-2 DLCs ever with it, and if it got hacked, I'd file a claim with my bank or Visa and have the card A-stat'ed immediately. So yeah it sucks, but it has affected me exactly 0%.

However, having a battery die in my controller, only to have a freshly charged battery not carry a charge and have to stop playing has kinda sucked. Having to pay $60 a year just to access Netflix sucked. I'm not a big online gamer, I play mainly single player and use my consoles moreso for netflix and bluray/dvds than anything else anymore, so the PS3 is the obvious choice for me. I'll still own a 360, but it's just a flawed system, one that they've corrected a lot with the slim, but it's still "hand me money to access the really cool stuff" and I'm just not into that after I already paid $300 for the box.

Btw, brushing this off as though it's nothing is kind of a bad idea. When's the last time you've seen me on PSN? They're still not forgiven for such a colossal fuck-up.

Yeah, I just wish there wasn't so much emphasis on making the game look good, I mean some games manage to get the balance right (the Halo series is the first that comes to mind). Too many games seem to look fucking awesome but when you come down to it are tripe, but then this is kind of the age old problem with computer games in general and isn't confined to this gen of consoles.

I'd just rather they found a way for me to play with my mates in the same room without them having to lug their bloody console to mine, y'know like you could do on the goddan N64?

As gamers begin to take advantage of what the new Xbox 360 Dashboard update has to offer, there are a few features that have fallen by the wayside. Of the removed features, one that seems to be rubbing a lot of people the wrong way is the Netflix party feature. We've received several reports from irate gamers about the removed feature, which allowed Xbox LIVE subscribers to hang out with their friends' Avatars while viewing a video through the Netflix app.

IGN reached out to Microsoft about the removal and they issued the following response.

"The new app platform on Xbox does not support the video party mode feature at this time, so will not be available in any existing app partners that have updated their app, like Netflix, or any of the new Xbox app partners. The feature is still available in some of our international video apps, like BSkyB in the UK and will likely be included in the next version of the app dev kit.

"For customers that would like to chat with their Xbox LIVE friends while gaming or watching videos the chat feature is still available via the Xbox Guide."

While it seems that you'll still be able to chat with friends while watching videos, the outright removal of the Party option is still a disappointing move; hopefully we'll see it returned at some point.
