Friday night we were having some beers and checking it out. He wasn't there, but his insurance/paperwork was tucked under the strap on the passenger seat, waiting for plates.
Got a call this morning from my buddy Tony, the kid took it out last night, illegally passed two cars and slammed into the back of an SUV. He had the bike one day. He's in the hospital, he'll survive, a few broken bones and a concussion, but the important part is that he'll walk away from it.
He had the bike ONE DAY. Didn't even pick up a helmet yet, was fortunately wearing an old snowmobile helmet he had laying around. On mother's day, his mom is spending it in the hospital.
If you ride a bike, please, please take your ass to the track if you want to go fast. Track Days are about $250 and you can ride your ass off, and if you crash there are teams of emergency staff there prepared to assist you, and the only things you'll injure are yourself and the track wall.
The faster you go, the bigger the mess.
Damn that sucks. I hope he's ok.
