    Pics from LimeRock GrandAm Series

If you're close to CT, come out sat or monday.

I got myself a weekend pass and headed up for a few hours today. HOT out. I only stayed for a couple hours so as to save face (literally) for the real events. Today was mostly practice and qualifying for the sat and monday races (sun = no track due to city ordinance, car show happens instead) spf50 applied 7 times, and i'm still red. lol Needed to bail so i can walk tomorrow for the real event.

Welcome to LimeRock. Hawks were circling overhead all day. Beautiful area.

Outfield was closed today (will be opened tomorrow for the bigger crowds)

I made my way to the pits right away and jumped in on the Turner guy giving the run down of their plans for the weekend, car set up, etc. Very interesting little informal 'speech' in front of their corral.

Lots of cool stuff in the parking lot, as usual. I didn't take many pics here. Will get more/better of the parking areas tomorrow.

Continental is the tire supplier this year. They have 5 rigs full of race tires there. crazy.

Laugh all you want, but they took outside, row 1 for their heat.
These things are F'ing loud too. Might rival the rx8's..... seriously.

FTD in ST: ( and the kia is right on his ass)

all running d17's from the look of it.
mid-pack from what i could tell.

    gti is 3rd in ST

I mostly just tried to stay in the shade so i didn't take a lot of pics, but did do a few laps of the track.

    The famous limerock Geese

    Here's some parking lot goodness.

m3 GTR and a Ferrari promo car for the upcoming Ferrari challenge in July at the track

    loved these wheels

    whole row of hotness

m3 race school car, some Porsche that didn't belong here, exige, tr6, vettes, shelby mustang

The gt3. plated, running pilot sport cups

sick old school racer. i think this is a pre e30 gen, but am not sure. i thought it was an m1 at first from a distance. This was at the Rahal / Letterman trailer:

the old m3 race car. note the lug

the new 1 M, which i hear is going to be 2011 model year limited production of 500 units only. If you have 47k, buy one and park it. Instant money maker.

    That's all for today.
    just passing through....

Cool shots, thanks for sharing! Why on earth Nascar is rated higher than the ALMS and the like is beyond me, in many ways your GT categories are far more exciting than ours.

I am so very, very jealous of Europe. All we get here is awful Indy and even worse Nascar.

A race series that feature cars that are more true to what people can actually buy is so much more interesting than the series that race vehicles purpose-built for racing and nearly identical. That's what NASCAR should have stayed like. There's definitely a place for series like F1, which push the limits of what can be done on four wheels (both driving and engineering), but NASCAR and the like seems like a combination of the least interesting parts of every kind of motorsport. It's a shame ALMS and the like don't get more attention. I love showroom stock and GT racing. (And WRC, though that's pushing the limit a bit.)

My local BMW dealership had one of the 1 Series M on their showroom floor a couple of weeks ago when i was in getting the MINI serviced. Great looking little car, and i bet it goes like mad. It's probably sold by now, especially with the news this week that it's a 1-year-only deal. (Could it be because it spanked the M3 around Nurburgring?)

And somebody in my neighbourhood (i think he's one of the owners of a local Porsche garage and racing team) has a GT3 that he drives every day.

Awesome thread. If I was home, I'd definitely consider heading out there. That looks like a freakin' blast!

DAMN that is sexy. Is that a matte paint job?

Hey, I know him. Turner's shop is about 1/4 mile from my house. They always have a fuckload of ridiculous cars parked outside.

Edit: And it looks like that silver car is a Turner car. I may have to pop over there and have a peek at it when I'm back!

BMW calls it "frozen gray" paint. And yes, it's matte.

Personally, i'd probably just go for a matte gray or black wrap. Matte paint is just too impractical for daily living.
