My car was hit while parked on my street the other day. The guy who did it left a note with his info, I was able to speak to him in person and made a claim, and now I have an appointment tomorrow to have it checked out by an adjuster for his insurance company, who has said they'll cover it 100%.
I've never had to deal with anything like this before, so I don't know how it works...am I expected to pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed, or do they give me a check to cover it, or do they pay the repair shop directly? Maybe a stupid question, but like I said, I've never had to deal with this before.
There are a couple of scenarios that can take place. Depending on his insurance and coverages, etc. most likely what will happen is that HIS insurance company will select a "preferred" body shop to make the repairs, and they will cut them a check.
They may send an adjuster to look at the damage, make an appraisal, and cut you a check on the spot, and then make any adjustments behind the scenes with the repair shop. You shouldn't be on the hook for anything, even a deductible.
In my experiences, it has always been my preference to choose the body shop that I've dealt with in the past, who I know does a good job. Most insurance companies on either side won't have a problem with this.
