Funny set of circumstances let me do this. I should preface this all by pointing out that despite being madly into racing cars owing to financial and family problems I've never had the chance to do anything beyond some basic karting that Joe Bloggs can do off the street and I don't even have a driving licence.
I was out helping one of our customers on a testing day and over lunch I was helping a guy who was also testing with his aero problems. One thing led to another and I was offered a go of his car. I was somewhat bullied into it (I was terrified of spinning this car as I could not afford to replace it) by the guy I was with - who lent me his protective gear, showed me the circuit, and out I went for two laps.
Best. Day. Ever. I'm hardly impressive to watch but for my first time in a racing car the fact that I didn't spin it is more than enough for me. There is a possibility of getting to do some more later in the year, but I'm not going to get my hopes up too high just yet.
