So recently my mom stumbled across this GTI for $4500obo, valued at 6200$~ KBB, 49k miles, al drives and maintenance documented, car fax certified, drives great, cosmetically good, etc, my dad(service manager for 40 years) checked it out to be fine, so we grabbed it!
Being a FWD, auto coupe, it checks all of my boxes except AWD, Manual, and four door. So I'm crazy happy. For the price, which we eventually talked down to $4200, I can't say anything.
I took it out last night, and drove it. When you drive regularly, it's a civilized, practical car. But when you hit the gas and the turbo says '...huh..? Me? Oh, right!' the thing MOVES. The only gripe I have is that the ride is a little harsh, but I like how it absolutely hugs the road so I have little room to complain. Al black leather, VW's classic black w/red light interior, which, I LOVE. Heated seats, sunroof(deal breakers for me), good radio. When you lay down the rear seats it's essentially a 6' flatbed in the back, so shows just got a hell of a lot easier. And the backseat is surprisingly roomy, comfortable, I'd venture to say.
I may do intake/exhaust, but only for the sake of performance, I don't want it sounding like a '92 civic.
No pictures yet, it's a dark silver, just lighter than gunmetal. All in all, I'm in love with this thing. It's heartbreaking that it's automatic but for $2k under KBB with not a damned thing wrong with it, you just can't turn it down.
Is it tiptronic at all or just a regular auto?
Could spend the 2k you saved on making it a manual
