I need some advice on my car. So far Google's been pretty useless.
I drive a manual 2004 Focus. Earlier this evening I was driving and noticed the clutch felt funny. The pedal had the same amount of travel, but it felt soft and started engaging lower each time I used it (as in closer to the floor). While this was happening it got harder to move the gear shift into gear. I pulled into a parking lot and it seemed to more or less lock up on me. This whole thing happened in a minute or so and over maybe a quarter mile.
I can start the car, but I can't put it into gear at all and the clutch feels completely soft. The only thing I can do is move it into reverse, but it's grinding as if the car is lightly running in reverse.
I got picked up and got some brake/clutch fluid (it looked low) but that didn't seem to help. I spent an hour waiting in the car with the weather below freezing and after all that I didn't feel like getting a second person and doing a full bleed of the clutch line, so I'm back home right now.
My question is, do you guys think it's worth getting someone tomorrow to help me bleed the clutch, or should I just assume the worst and get it towed? I'd like to avoid getting it towed because I have very little money, but if I have to I have to. To bleed it I'll have to get the day off work, so before I do that I thought I'd see if it sounds like a good idea.
Your cable could be fucked.
