So, here we are, week 5 of the mg.org something for everyone challenge. Born out of some people liking doing covers, whilst others like writing songs, with a combination of a few people just not having enough time to do full songs (hence the lead a week). Do one, 2 or all 3. Also, it means I only have to track one of these per week.

The point totals after week 3 are as follows:
Markus: 60
Connor: 50
Rev Drucifer: 50
scole: 50
Iron1: 40
Randy: 30
7DT: 20
T Gobbs: 10
Budda: 10
Brian 10
Bohmer: 10
Nick: 9
Vince: 10
Mattayus: 10

Rules are simple, do 1-3 things every week, Post your creations in the weekly thread as soundcloud/youtube links. I'm aiming to get various contributions for backing tracks, each one will be credited to the author. As it's the first week I'm doing a dropbox download, but we should get some dedicated hosting or something like that courtesy of chris. If you gave me a backing track, then you get bonus 10 points too, I am instigating that, as work should be rewarded. And points mean prizes (whatever that means)

The deadline for this week is end of play, Sunday 12th April

Short rules:
- You have until sunday midnight/monday morning to post your submission
- Either do an original song, a cover/medley or a lead over the provided backing track per week.
- Submissions must be stuff you've done this week, no matter how awesome an old track/recording is
- 10 points for each submission, per category.
- submissions as souncloud or youtube links. Well, as long as it is playable from a post in the thread really.
- You can do multiple entries per category, but only the first one will score points.
- no eliminations, do your stuff as and when you can
- leads can be layer, melodies, you can chop and rearrange the track, whatever floats your boat really
- Don't be a dick to other people. You can go to ss.org for that.
- Don't steal other peoples songs
- Don't steal backing tracks or pass it off as your own, give credit where it's due if you want to share your awesome yngwie malmsteen unleash the fjokking fjury face melting solo.

LAW Track:

This weeks backing track is courtesy of avid Saw contributor Scole. Someone said that this track should be a LAW track when he posted it, and, here it is! Again, tons of thanks for the contribution!:

This backing track is a good time, gonna whip something up!

Edit:

Nice playing, Budda. I was kind of spacing out when I listened to your LAW track but when I tuned back in I was like "this sounds awesome" and started it over  Great stuff all the way through :yesway:

It's so weird to hear someone else tear it up on a song you wrote. Nice job, man.

Got food poisoning on Monday, then recovered Tuesday and got it again Wednesday and spent Thursday recovering, so this one was kinda rushed out the door yesterday and this morning. Not sure I'll have time to go back and do bass lines, so uploading it now, just in case.

As someone who has quit a band, then watched that band with the replacement play all songs that you helped write, I understand .

@Iron1 that was solid :yesway:.

Another week, another LAW entry! More surprises in this one again  Super fun track to jam over. Just listened to everyone else's entries. Will chime in with commentary later but overall, super impressive stuff.

Quarantine does funny things to you, I've had writers block for over a month now. Finally put together a complete thought. It's totally a skeleton song, needs leads, vocals, drum editing, etc., but hey this was fun!

The amp is all the JP2C. Red channel with shred mode on. I tried a few different overdrives, but the shred mode had what this song needed. The guitar is my Schecter Apocalypse 7 string.

Here's my cover of Jotun by In Flames. This has been one of those songs that I've sort of been able to play for a long time now, but finally decided to learn it properly. It's not 100 % polished (I "learned" the bass in like 15 minutes), but I think it's quite ok-ish.

Well you nailed the guitar tone and feel for sure! That's an excellent cover.

My entry this week is definitely a bit different than my usual songs. My drummer buddy in Nashville is recording real drums to it today, so there's just a half-assed drum track on here now to give him an idea of what I was thinking. Very anxious to hear what he does with it. I wrote the song out on acoustic first, took a break to Zoom with some family while having some cocktails. By the time I got back in the studio I was shitfaced, programmed the drums then laid down the distorted guitar, solo and bass track. It's certainly a bit sloppy but I was going to wait until hearing my buddy's contribution before really going in and layering everything the 'right' way. That solo is stupid and somehow got panned to one side.

I listened to most of the contributions this week and again, it's a steady incline of improvements from everyone. When I have some more time I'll go through and write up my usual post with everyone's work. The consistency of contributions is stellar. Thank you C19!

Love the sinister sounding stuff in your music and that guitar tone has some serious grind to it :metal:

Put the thread for the coming week up, so I may impress you with the tastefully subdued composition I starting working on an hour ago to finally get in on this action.

Sliding in just before the deadline. I was dead in the water up through Thursday night. I had 3 different ideas that just died out. I Had my guitar lesson via Zoom that night and worked on my Reaper latency afterwards (now down from 15ms to 7ms). Through playing with that I came up with the progression in this tune.
