So, I have quite a few high profile gigs coming up in the near future, so it was time to update the rigs of doom. All were ordered between yesterday and today.
First we start with this for the stadium gigs:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l187/rgb500/wt1205.jpg
Why stop there? We need to have a club rig as well being that we are all about scaling down for easy load ins/outs: (props go out to Mr. lee for helping sneaking this one by the wife:rofl:)
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l187/rgb500/WT550.jpg
Wait..... we need cabinets to go along with these monsters of the low end. Lets add two of these:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l187/rgb500/d210xlt.jpg
Can`t stop there....throw two more of these into the mix:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l187/rgb500/d210xst.jpg

All four 210`s will be used with the WT1205 (1200 watts) for the stadium gigs.
Two of the 210`s will be used with the WT550 (700 watts) for the club gigs.

That is a lot of headroom... that's insane, as most places mic you or DI you into a PA anyways. But... that'd also be an awful lot of fun to play through!

About those amps... are they supposed to be 'transparent' like jazz amps or do they give more 'color' to the sound like an SVT or Gallien-Krueger RB? I like the size and weight of those things, but I don't know if they can give a "clang" or "growl" the way that a SVT or RB can.

James
02-11-2009, 07:29 AM
Nice Mike

One thing though, why do you need the "club" rig? Obviously you should use the 1200W beast with all four cabs for all gigs. Who needs to hear the rest of the band anyway? :D

I've only played an eden once. But It absolutely destroyed the Krueger next to it. Can't really remember the tone though. Then again I'm not a big fan of GKs or SVTs anyways.

Edens are very Hi-Fi sounding amps with the best engineered EQ circuits out there. These amps sound amazing right out of the box with the EQ set flat, and are quite easy to dial in your sound.

The xlt210 cabs are awesome and are the best sounding cabs I have ever heard. Very tight low end with crisp highs. They work really well for rock/blues, ect..
The XST cabs are tuned for lower frequency response with a more scooped midrange sound which lend themselves well for more funk/jazz oriented music.

The WT550 is really the workhorse of the Eden line and one of the best sounding amps in their line. It`s light weight (20 lbs), power, and tone are unbeatable, which makes it the wise choice for club gigs, both small & large.

I bought the WT1205 for it`s sheer power and tone for the large profile gigs.
I am kind of one of the go-to guys in my area for pick-up gigs with touring musicians that need bass players.
I`ve had amps go down on high profile gigs twice in the past (it always seemed to happen on the important gigs....Murphy`s law).
The 1205 is a dual amp, so if one of the power sections goes down, I can still get through the gig.

Also being a dual amp, I can set one side up for fretless or upright bass, and the other for fretted basses, so all of the bases are covered with this this head.

Leon
02-11-2009, 01:02 PM
important questions:

1. i checked the website, and these have a tube pre-amp, and a SS power section?

2. when you bring the WT1205 to Kevan's, can i help you carry the XLT210 cab down the stairs?

Leon
02-11-2009, 01:07 PM
ah ha!

We have chosen to go with a hybrid design style for the Eden products. We typically use a vacuum tube (7025) for the front end followed by solid state signal processing and power outputs. This lets us use the great warmth, natural tone and compression characteristics of the tube preamplifier to define the overall tone characteristics of the amplifier and still deliver the high power, final amplification with highly reliable solid state devices rather than using the more expensive and less reliable hi power tube circuits.

eleven59
02-11-2009, 01:42 PM
^ :agreed:

That's why I like my Ampeg SVT3Pro, it's not huge power, but I like having the tube pre for warmth and the solid-state power to keep everything clean and defined.

I've always heard awesome things about Eden amps and heard some great sounds from them, but I love my tone so much right now that I don't think I'll be ditching Ampeg any time soon.

Batch Masterson
02-11-2009, 02:19 PM
Funny, I`ve been using a SVT3Pro with a Ampeg 410 HLF 4 ohm cab for years. I`ve heard alot of people complain about it lacking in power. The reason for this is it has an active master volume circuit. I run mine in an unorthodox way to get the balls out of it.

I run the master volume at 8, with the tube master at 7, and use the gain control as the volume. Big fucking volume & massive low end. It taps all 450 watts out of the transformer. It`s alot easier on the preamp tubes as well as you aren`t hitting the pre section that hard.

It`s really the only way to get the balls out of that amp.
I`ve never heard anyone say I`ve had bad tone out of it, or lacking in volume.
Give it a try.

BTW, my 3Pro is for sale now with the new Eden stuff on the way.

My brother runs Edens too. He's got the WT550 and ran it with a 2x10 and 2x12, and he just bought another 2x12. Mike, you should really check out the 2x12 cabs. He says they're much meaner than the 2x10s. (Sorry I don't know the exact model numbers he has, but he's on the Eden forums as Bryan316 if you are on there)

im actually pretty content with my hartke bass rig to be honest, since im not looking for the prettiest of sounds haha :P

btw, ive had a lust for some contra bass action lately... im thinking of getting a smaller sized one, something between a cello and a contra bass, so i can tune it up to f# and sometimes down to drop E, and play it with a bow... id love that...

any recommendations as to what i should look for? (sizes and stuff? 4/4 is way too huge for me. i want something larger than a cello though)

Morten, look for a student sized 1/4 upright then. I am assuming you don`t want to spend alot of $$ so have a look at ebay, or check your local music stores that carry big-band instruments. They usually will require a tech to have them set up, so the music store might be the better option, as they usually have techs there that can set them up.
I couldn`t find anything on Ebay/norway, but there are plenty listed on ebay here in the states.

a 4/4 size is fucking HUGE for me, and i can imagine 2/4 still being pretty large, so im sure youre absolutely right on that one :)

But, see, Mike can use his huge stack 'o bass all at once.

You can only play one guitar at a time (maybe two if you're doing one hand on each neck.)

Not that I'm protesting the large guitar collection, as each instrument has its special qualities... but, Mike's new gearwhoriness can be sort of explained away to an average person, who might understand that he needs a lot of speakers to be able to play stadiums. The average person might not understand why you need dozens of guitars.

Course, you could always explain to said average person that each guitar can be likened to a woman and having variety is good (:yesway:)... but, you'll still come across a little

A few years back, Eden did a limited run of 30 units based on this amp using the original parts.

Hmmm, what could be in this box?

Why it`s 67lbs. of full blown 320 watts of Eden tube muscle:yesway:

Hmmm, a neat feature...individual bias adjusters for each tube:yesway:

Casters would be the obvious choice, but casters don't exactly scratch that gear itch. I think you need to replace the 4-space with a 6-space, and grab two more rack units.

The 12`s aren`t as loud, or punchy as the 10`s, but they definately deliver a more rounded sound to the rig in the lower mids.

Gumby has fought hard battles. After lighting him on fire the nite Chris & Drew were here, he was left out in the rain for three days. Then we played driveway pong with him. He was scheduled for the bon-fire, but Hot "painter chick" rescued him, and has him displayed over her fireplace via two concrete screws.

Hard to believe, but the neck is still perfectly strait on him after all the abuse he has been through.:metal:
