Wife and I still haven't picked it up. We want to play together, but they're not offering vertical split screens yet

    This.

I'm partially through my 2nd run through and there's somethings that seriously disappoint, mainly with the story, and a particular npc. Still fun, but I enjoyed BL1&2 a lot more. With The Outer Worlds out now, BL3 will be gathering dust for the foreseeable future, lol!

Still bummed on this. I played through BL2 a couple months ago to get ready for it, and BL2 is ten times more fun and engaging than this game is.

Getting around to playing this right now.

I like it so far, although obviously the villains aren't as good as Handsome Jack. The beginning is kind of slow paced for sure, it gets better once you leave Pandora.

It's essentially just more Borderlands 2 though. It took a bizarrely long time to come out considering that. It's fun, and I'll play it and the DLCs, but it's like, beyond some different mechanics it's more Borderlands 2.

I mean, considering the amount of time it took to come out, it's not like Bethesda titles like the Elder Scrolls, where each new installment takes forever to come out but it also features a ton of new and updated mechanics that make it a much different experience.

It's pretty much another campaign for Borderlands 2. I can't even tell the difference graphically. It's definitely not as inspired as Borderlands 2 plot wise. Although once again, waiting on the DLC.

It's funny to see the Borderlands guys take a stand against "games as a service" though, because with how they release stuff, that would actually make more sense for the franchise. Numbering them as discrete entries like I/II/III/IV works better if there are Bethesda style leaps in engine between games.

Also, the size was fucking ridiculous and the Epic Store fucking sucks. Should have waited for it to come out on Steam.

The Epic Store seriously doesn't download like every other sane store, you have to do it all in one go, the game is like 60 gb, I downloaded 52 and there was a power outage, thinking "Oh that's no problem, like Steam I'll just restart the app and grab the last 4-5 GB.

NOPE. Shit restarted from scratch. I'm not the only one who has noticed this issue either. Come on Epic Store, it's fucking 2019.

Also, from a narrative direction I'm not that stoked on the whole, "Rolands death was such a big shock/turning point in 2 that we should do it again by killing a bunch of ex player characters". Especially if you played the Siren characters in 1 and 2.

2 was also awesome for featuring all the player characters from 1 heavily. DLC aren't out yet, and Borderlands historically packs a large amount of content in DLC, but a bunch of player characters from 2 and the Pre-Sequel didn't make appearances at all.

Outer Worlds was rad and I played through it twice, but it also didn't live up to expectations.

I thought it would be bigger. It was fun, and a lot of the world building was cool, but the later parts of the plot and stuff were sort of anti-climactic.

Not to mention how everyone was like, "This is the spiritual sequel to New Vegas" and then there are only two ending choices. No fucking wild card ending? Bullshit. It wouldn't have been so bad if the "good guy" Phineas Welles wasn't almost as unlikable as the "bad guys"

Also all the, "THIS GAME IS A SEARING CRITIQUE OF CAPITALISM", stuff is BS. At its best its a mildly clever critique of capitalism, at its worst its eye rollingly bad. That's not me a fan of capitalism either, they just played everything for the same low hanging fruit laughs. "LOL, CORPORATIONS ARE SOCIOPATHIC" is not really a deep commentary on anything. That joke is funny once or twice, but when the entire game revolves around a series of "LOL CORPORATIONS ARE SOCIOPATHIC" gags it gets stale fast. There was very little actual commentary.

It's especially jarring because both Borderlands and Fallout have been using the exact same themes of "corporations of the future run by sociopaths, capitalism gone wild" tropes for quite a while. The premise wasn't that fresh. Borderlands also revolves around the whole, "Corporations in space, corporate warfare, caste systems, people are pretty much owned by corporations" shit, and Borderlands isn't a particularly deep game, so all the people playing Outer Worlds being like, "THIS IS SO FUCKING DEEP THEMATICALLY" are full of shit.

The one place it succeeded was having a bunch of cool characters though, so it was still a great game, just not as good as it could have been. The character writing and colorful environments saved it. All the NPC companions were cool, although Nyoka was probably the best.

I kinda lost interest in it. :\ Feels like mediocre DLC.

How far are you in? IMO pretty much all Borderlands games are a fucking drag for the first 4-5 hours. 2 didn't really get good until you blew up the train and Sanctuary got airborne and then it was a non stop rush to the finish. I don't know how much of the main quest I have left, but the Athenas section was a lot faster paced, so I'm assuming that's the "main plot picks up speed" part of this game. I haven't played through the main story yet, but I started the expansion. The new expansion that just came out today is actually a blast, one of the better DLC they've put out for the series so far, not stingy with the Legendaries either, for fucking once. I got 3 legendaries in the first hour and a half, compared to the grand total of 0 legendary guns I have got in the main game. The DLC in 3 apparently also level to your character. It's definitely pretty funny in the "classic dumb Borderlands humor" kind of way.

It's like the Borderlands 3 version of Dead Money for New Vegas. You have to go and heist Handsome Jack's decrepit/semi-abandoned orbital casino.

3 is definitely more weapons centric than the others. Like, if you have boring weapons it sucks. Some of the weapons fucking rule. "The Red Queen" legendary grenade mod that is like a fucking laser wire bolas type thing that decapitates enemies is pretty awesome. The enemies in general are too bullet sponge-y though. Not even the bosses. The regular enemies.
