I either set it to noob and still couldn't win, or couldn't set it to noob thus couldn't win, so I ended up doing the Trade-In Of Shame the next day.
The online fighting community is brutally good at these games, and if its their series, then you can guarantee even on day one, there'll be dudes smoking you and making you wonder if this really came out only a few hours ago

I'd like this more if it weren't such a wasteland of microtransactions or the Krypt mode being such a grindfest. Then again, I've been rather down on fighting games thanks to this whole season pass/DLC holding half the roster hostage.

Exhibit A for why I no longer game. It's impossible to find a game where you can just drop in and start having fun.

    So live for today,
    Tomorrow never comes.
    Die young, die young,
Can't you see the writing in the air?
    Die young, gonna die young,
    Someone stopped the fair.

Smash Bros is great for this. Yes, people will own you, but the amount of chaos and accessibility means that it's easy to pick up and go.

I have absolutely zero desire to ever play online.

I've gone through about 3 different multiplayer games in the past 2 years, and the only one I continue to go back to is Titanfall 2. Overwatch falls apart because no one follows any sort of team meta (2 tank/2 DPS/2 healer, etc), and it's competitive ranking is an absolute nightmare for smurf/throw accounts, so you can't advance; and Apex Legends blew up so fast that people started playing in the shittiest manner, and battle royales are half a game anyways, so I was OK dropping it.

Single player is where it's at for me now

Online Smash has been pretty fun; that's the first game I've played online in the better part of a decade

All the Nintendo games are pretty good online. The ranking system does a solid job of matching weaker and newer players together while matching better players together. Splatoon 2 is maybe the most fun I've ever had playing a game, and I'm far from good at shooter games anymore.

Smash is one of those games where it's almost fun to get your asskicked. I don't like online as much just cause of the lag and character nerfing, but it's still my favorite game series to date.
