Metal band with "fake fanbase" plays UK tour to nobody

So a few mates of mine who work for local venues/promoters were chatting about this on Facebook today.
    Totally bizarre story.
Basically "Threatin", an american metal band is currently playing a UK tour, but nobody has actually heard of them, and all their "fans" seem to be fake account online etc. Very bizarre as they've probably spent £30k on booking the venues etc :/
    Loads more info here:
L.A. Band Threatin Faked a Fanbase To Land a European Tour No One Attended

Seems like a musical equivalent of Tommy Wiseau's The Room

Post metal, for fans of ISIS, Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Gojira etc

That's fucking wild. I think I'd have tried to go see this were they still in the UK.

    Kinda reminds me of this:

Difference is that there were people actually trying to go there.

Nothing to this extreme but I definitely experienced similar things back in the early 2000s.

Band faking Myspace followers, bands faking fans to book shows in other states (or countries) and yes, bands buying all the tickets for shows. I dunno if they're just bored dentists or pediatricians looking to play vacation rock star and willing to empty their wallet to get on stage or if they all read the same trolling band promotion 'how to' but this definitely was a thing.
