The new Arch/Matheos album, "Winter Ethereal" sounds fantastic.

I cannot say I'm the biggest Arch/Matheos fan. Because I'm not the craziest about John Arch's vocals unless I just need to get "used to it" more.
However, I am loving it on this album. Really enjoying it.

Christian Muezner (Obscura, Necrophagist) recommended listening and said it was very emotionally compelling.

So I throw it on because I didn't even know they made a new record and I must say it is quite a pleasure listening to.
The mix is spot on and the guitar is thrashy/mystical sounding. I love it.

I knew some of you were friends, so I figured I'd throw it up here for you all.

There are some phenomenal guests too:

    John Arch − vocals
Jim Matheos − lead and rhythm guitars
Joey Vera − bass guitar on Wanderlust, Never In Your Hands
Bobby Jarzombek − drums on Wrath of the Universe, Straight and Narrow
Frank Aresti - guitar solos in Never In Your Hands, Kindred Spirits
Joe DiBiase − bass guitar on Solitary Man
Mark Zonder − drums on Wanderlust, Tethered
Steve Di Giorgio − bass guitar on Vermilion Moons, Wrath of the Universe, Straight and Narrow
Sean Malone − bass guitar on Pitch Black Prism, Kindred Spirits
George Hideous − bass guitar on Tethered
Matt Lynch − drums on Kindred Spirits
Thomas Lang - drums on Vermilion Moons, Solitary Man, Pitch Black Prism
Baard Kolstad - drums on Never In Your Hands
If anyone has any prayer requests, need to talk, or have questions about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    Feel free to message me.

    God Bless, Venator

Been meaning to pick it up but haven’t been able to just yet. It was sold out the last time I visited a music store. I’m a huge Matheos fan and have heard good things about this effort.

I like it. It's not quite as good as "Sympathetic Resonance" was, but that's a hard bar to cross.

I'll check it out, but I too have never been an Arch fan.

I am a huge John Arch fan - I've seen three of the four live performances he's done since coming out of "retirement", including travelling to Germany twice. I was primed to love this album. I don't. It's really, really good, but not as good as the debut. After how good the last Fates was, I had really high hopes for Jim's writing for this one, but it just didn't live up to expectations for me.

My opinion may change as I spend more time with it. I got the pre-order, so I've had it for a few weeks, but haven't spent a ton of time with it.

Man, I really dig Arch's voice on these more then back in FW. And I really want to get into these and the last handful of FW albums but man, I just can't get past Matheos' tone. Seems like after PSoG, he's just been plugging a metal zone direct into the board.

You know, I'm still not an Arch fan, but three tracks in, I'm enjoying this.
