Wow, I thought he was younger than me from the things he posted here and on the JCF. Sad news, and my condolences to his family and friends.

    RIP Matt

I know the Matt's Music account here was shared by a few guys at his store and the one I've spoken with the most is definitely younger than you (and me as well I suspect), Jim. I'll try to toss them a line over the weekend, I hope the shop is positioned such that they can stay in business and remain independent without Matt, for the sake of his employees.

Lung cancer claims another one. Anyone who still smokes, please quit.

Prayers for his family and friends.

That really sucks. He seemed so cool and always happy to answer questions.

    Dang...

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I have been Matt's right hand man for 17 years and he was an amazing guitar player and person.
It's a huge loss and we will miss him a lot.
A few things: I saw someone mention smoking.. believe it or not, Matt didn't smoke. Lung cancer is just a huge bitch that way.
We will be keeping the store running per Matt's wishes to keep his legacy alive. I have dealt with a few of you before myself and don't ever hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I am the "younger guy" referenced above most likely.

That's a bitch, lung cancer taking a non smoker.

Glad to hear you guys are able to keep the store running - your first thought on hearing this news is obviously to Matt, but you guys have always been great as well and I was hoping the shop was in a position to keep running after him, you'd hate to see a couple decent guys lose their jobs on top of losing a boss and a friend, and Matt's was a rarity in an increasingly corporate music world.

Also, if you've been working with him for 17 years, you're probably at least a little older than I thought! My condolences though, man - Matt was a great guy, I'm stoked to hear you'll be able to keep the shop running, but his loss must have been crushing on a personal level...
