It has awful production, but the best songs the classic lineup ever wrote.

CtE is absurdly good given it's a blatant sellout album. It's obvious they heard The Black Album and were trying to ape it's success. The fact that they managed to write a classic is very impressive.

Youthanasia is also way better than it has any right to be. On paper, a hard rock album by Megadeth that features songs all around the same tempo sounds like a slog, yet it's a really solid record. No Rust in Peace, but given the quality of thrash acts in 1994 it's above par.
    C'mon son.

You can honestly listen to Kill em All and think that’s boring? Especially considering the year it was released, and the musical landscape at the time?

If so you are a poser of the most heinous degree.

Couldn't disagree more. Half of Countdown is absolute garbage. Ashes in Your Mouth is the only song that can stand up to the best of their previous albums.

Eh, that album has some stinkers on it. I Ain't Superstitious sucks, and while that ascending/descending riff in Bad Omen is fucking fantastic, the rest of the song is pretty mediocre. Same with the title track - great chorus and bridges, lousy verse.

I like that album a lot but it's nowhere near the best 'Deth album.

This. Do you spend a lot of time cranking Psychotron and High Speed Dirt, Buono?

I'd include Foreclosure of A Dream and Captive Honour to the skip list as well.

Based on the demo versions of Countdown, it seems like the heaviness and complexity was toned down a bit during the production, especially the drums are way less intense on the album.
