Mini-Doc on Mangini trying out for Dream Theater (Take This For Pain)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tZ-go2CXqo]Dream Theater - Take This For The Pain (Documentary) - YouTube

This is a gnarly video! It goes into the more in-depth jam that occurred when Mangini was trying out for Dream Theater and a few more interviews.

The Jam reminds me of a mixture of "Home," Pink Floyd, Planet X and Spastic Ink. Haha! Mangini kills it of course!

Seriously, Mangini is the most likable guy ever.

They are TOTALLY fucking with him in the middle of this jam.

Comically, I spend more time watching these Mangini documentaries (and the rest of the auditions, actually) than I do listening to DTs latest albums. Are parts of that jam on the new record?

He also just looks like he's having a blast here. He's gotta be such a fun guy to play with. All of these guys, really, but he's grinning like an idiot the whole time.

Man, you're so happy for him when he gets the news.

    Unfortunately, no.

I was wondering why some of these jams were not even used? It sounds so much better compared to what is on the new album.

Drew - Yeah! Mike Mangini reminds me of Paul Gilbert, there both just so happy to play their instruments and both seem like they would be a blast to play with!

I think the first album with Mangini was already written when he joined - they're just now working on their second, right? And perfect comparison with Gilbert, spot on.
