Need help with an amp choice!

Ok so, i have no experience with valve amps and how their valve amp power (W) compare to digital amps but i do know that a 20W valve amp is the same as a 100W digital (as far as i have been led to believe). I am an metal player that does dabble in a little bit more than metal (crunch and many clean sounds) and i want to buy a valve amp but the cash is incredibly tight. I can only choose between the Peavey 6505MH (20W) and the EVH 5150 III LBX2(15W). Which one would you recommend and why? Feel free to throw suggestions my way!

    Thanks a lot in advance!!!

    Welcome!

Watts are watts, they do not change based on source. Both a 20W digital and 20W tube amp can get very loud very fast.

If money is a concern (and usually it is) then a newer digital amp might be the better option. Even 5W tube amps get loud quick.

First thing though - what's the budget? Do you have volume concerns?

Justin is wrong. Get either the 5150 or 6505 and be brutally happy

All those things aside, between those two, I think, looking at their specific features, the 6505MH. It looks a bit more flexible, and has that *tad* bit of extra power.

Loudness vs wattage, well, I've had 100w amps get buried where a different 20w head can overpower. That's just down to the specifics of the circuit. Wattage has a bit more to do with headroom, meaning where your power amp starts to saturate. I prefer ~50w, myself, for all things.

You might also look at the Jet City JCA20H. That's the 20w'er that nearly tore my drummers head clean off when I cranked it . It doesn't have that big saturated 5150 feel, but if you get a decent overdrive and push both the level and drive a bit, you'll get there.
